The Spaulding Group to Conduct Portfolio Accounting Systems/Tear 2,000 Survey

Five Vendors Sign on as Cosponsors.

-------

Somerset, NJ --- June 1, 1998. The Spaulding Group (TSG) is launching a survey to determine the attitudes, plans, and opinions of money management firms regarding their portfolio accounting system. Questions regarding the Year 2000 issue will also be included.

TSG conducted a similar portfolio accounting survey in 1994, that was very well received by the money management industry. Since then, the firm has received numerous requests to repeat this survey, to obtain an update on the industry's perspectives and thoughts on this critical aspect of their operation.

TSG's president, David Spaulding, commented "since our last portfolio accounting survey, we've seen major changes in the structure of this segment of the industry. We've also seen changes on the technology front, with the increased interest in Microsoft's Windows/NT as an attractive and viable operating system. The inclusion of Year 2000 questions should significantly enhance the value and insightfulness of this research effort."

Five portfolio accounting systems vendors have signed on as cosponsors for this survey: Advent Software, Global Investment Systems, SunGard/Shaw Data, Princeton Financial, and CheckFree Investment Services. These firms are providing funding and ideas for the surveys' content.

The survey questionnaire is being developed and should be distributed by the end of June. TSG hopes to have the results available in late August or early September. Both US and non-US firms will be included in the survey.

In addition to the earlier portfolio accounting survey, TSG conducted performance surveys in 1993, 1995, and 1997, and a trading systems survey in 1996. TSG has also conducted proprietary surveys for its clients.

TSG is a management consulting, research, and publishing firm that serves the money management industry in the areas of computer technology, operations, performance measurement and reporting, and marketing. TSG also publishes The Journal of Performance Measurement, a quarterly publication they launched in 1996.
