Moderating an important benchmark panel @ NASDAQ event

by | Oct 20, 2014

NASDAQ

Anyone involved in investing knows how important benchmarks are. I was quite honored to have been asked by NASDAQ to host a benchmark panel at their upcoming Institutional Insights Forum. The session is titled Is it Time to Challenge Your Benchmarks? and will include the following panelists:

  • Joe Nardulli, Northern Trust
  • Jerry Garrett, Oklahoma Firefighters Pension & Retirement System
  • John L. Jacobs, Nasdaq Global Indexes
  • Lisa A. Massena, CFA, Senior Vice President, State Street Corporation
  • Frances Barney, CFA, Managing Director, Global Risk Solutions Consulting – Americas, BNY Mellon Asset Servicing

The program briefly describes the session as follows: “Given the rising cost and complexity of licensing for index data, many buy side managers are starting to evaluate their benchmarks and potential alternatives. Take a deeper dive into this trend to learn about the decision-making process for benchmark selection, the hidden cost to investors, and how the custodian segment in particular is starting to provide increased transparency on the relative cost of benchmark data options.”

Benchmark panel and beyond

NASDAQ is a major provider of market indices, and is keenly aware of many of the issues facing benchmark users. The panel will touch on a number of important issues, and we’ll take this subject up further, both here as well as in our newsletter. More information dissemination is planned, so please stay tuned!
